DAY 1 : Johannesburg and Cape Town
You will be met upon arrival in Cape Town. Your room at the deluxe Westin Hotel will be ready upon your arrival. Settle in for your 4-night stay.
DAY 2 : Cape Town
Few names resonate in association with South Africa as that of Nelson Mandela. After breakfast, set out on an emotional tour of Robben Island, the Alcatraz-like prison where the Nobel Peace Prize laureate spent 17 of his 27 years in captivity as a political prisoner.Later, get to know Cape Town on a panoramic city tour, taking in sights such as the outside of the Houses of Parliament and with a guided visit to the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest building in the city. Tonight is on your own.
DAY 3 : Cape Town
The greater Cape of Good Hope region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And today, you will enjoy a tour of the area including a visit to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, a drive along Chapman’s Peak Marine Drive, and a visit to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, where unique South Africa plants are on display. Later this evening, enjoy dinner at your hotel.
DAY 4 : Cape Town
In recent years—or vintages, shall we say—South Africa has emerged as a major wine-producing region. Today tour wine country, enjoying wine tasting at a premier estate.Your tour also includes a visit to the university town of Stellenbosch. This evening, you will be welcomed as honored guest into the home of a local South African family for dinner.
DAY 5 : Cape Town and Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal
After breakfast, take a flight to the Natal Coast and the city of Durban. Upon arrival, transfer across the land of the Zulu and check into your hotel for the night, the first class Protea Hotel Shakaland, located in the heart of the Zulu country and experience a Zulu-style welcome.Later this evening, enjoy a traditional dinner at a Zulu settlement, complete with tribal dancing.
DAY 6 : Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal
Today, return to Durban and take a panoramic city tour that will introduce you to sights such as the Vasco De Gama clock, City Hall, and the Indian Market, and will take you along the oceanfront road known as the Golden Mile.
Afternoon and evening are yours to shop perhaps at the largest shopping mall in Kwa Zulu Natal. Your stay for the evening is the Royal Palm Hotel at the top of the lovely resort town of Umhlanga Rocks.
DAY 7 : Kwa Zulu Natal and Kruger National Park
Today you fly to Johannesburg, from where you will continue your journey to magnificent Kruger National Park. Check into the first-class Protea Kruger Gate Hotel for a 3-night stay.
DAY 8 : Kruger National Park
Rise early and depart on an exciting full-day safari drive in Kruger National Park searching for big game. Here you may see herds of elephants or prides of lions following migrating African Cape Buffalo.
DAY 9 : Kruger National Park
Because game-viewing is such a highlight of this tour, today you will have a second day for a safari drive in Kruger National Park in the early morning and afternoon. Tonight, enjoy dinner at the hotel.
DAY 10 : Kruger National Park & Johannesburg
Today, journey to Johannesburg and take an afternoon tour of Pretoria visiting Church Street, the red-sandstone Union Buildings and its gardens, and the Voortrekker Monument. Later, check into the deluxe Grace in Rosebank Hotel for a 2-night stay.
DAY 11 : Johannesburg
The township of Soweto, once the home of Nelson Mandela, awaits on a morning tour. Visit the moving Hector Pieterson Monument, commemorating the 12-year-old boy whose death symbolized the beginning of the end of Apartheid. Make an inspiring stop this afternoon at the Apartheid Museum. This extraordinarily powerful museum has become an essential stop for travelers and locals alike.
DAY 12 : Johannesburg and Chobe National Park
This morning, fly to Victoria Falls and travel on to Chobe National Park in Botswana. This national park is home to the greatest elephant herds and large concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
As the sun goes down, take a game cruise on the Chobe River to look for Cape Buffalo, crocodiles, hippopotamus and a variety of exotic birds. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel where you will stay for 2 nights, the Mowana Safari Lodge.
DAY 13 : Chobe National Park
As the sun comes up, you will be on a safari in Chobe National Park looking for elephants, lions and zebras. Sail across the Chobe River to Namibia where you have the opportunity to visit a local Namibian village to learn about everyday life.
DAY 14 : Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls
This morning, travel to Victoria Falls and check into the historic, first-class Victoria Falls Hotel for a 2-night stay. This afternoon, take a walk on the wild side in the company of lion cubs. You will also ride an elephant through the bush before dinner.
This evening, you are in for a treat with a festive African boma dinner.
DAY 15 : Victoria Falls
It is one of the most majestic natural attractions in Africa—awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. This morning, take a guided visit to Victoria Falls National Park and stand in amazement at the Main Falls, Devils Cataract and Rainbow Falls.
Later, visit a local school and meet the charming children to get a taste of what regional life here is like. This evening say farewell to your fellow travelers during dinner at your hotel.
DAY 16 : Victoria Falls
After breakfast, head to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg and your connections home. Or if you choose, fly via Johannesburg to begin an exciting optional extension in Namibia.
